In 2001 the modular Bachelor degree programme Cultural Engineering - Cultural Studies, Knowledge Management, Logistics - was introduced at the Otto-von-Guericke-University. Becuase of the unexpected high nubmer of interested students, the number of first year students was limited up to 30 with a local numerus clausus for the year 2002.
A total of 82 students is currently enrolled in the Cultural Engineering study course.
The study course is promoted by the Bund-Länder-Kommission (Federation-State-Commission) as an academic modell project. It is a response to the current requirements of the employment market in a globalized and fast modernizing culture with increasing complexity.
The department of Logistics was together with the faculties of humanities (arts), social sciences and pedagogics intensely involved in the development of the Cultural Engineering concept.
The Logistics education within the study course is realized by the Department of Logisitics with a totally new study concept.
The core of the study course are project modules. In cooperation with companies and public facilities the students are challenged to self-dependently take on real projects to use and to practise their gained knowledge.
The new educational concept of Cultural Engineering is based upon topics out of the research and education fields of the main focus disciplines cultural studies, Knowledge Management and Logistics.
Cultural Engineering supports the development of interdisciplinary competencies, soft skills and key qualifications like project-oriented work and it focusses on the management of interfaces. Degree holders are employed in a broad range of companies reaching from production companies and -networks to public organizations and administrations. The functions can reach from management, consulting, organization, communication till coordination.
The Department of Logistics gains from the contribution to this new study course new methodical-didactical stimulations for the design and development of the "Industrial Engineering with specialization in Logistics" degree programme. Valuable are especially the cultural studies oriented point of view and suggestions and their integration into the engineering world. Furthermore result out of the common study field of Knowledge Management and the combined development of a learning platform further synergies.
